Amazon Reports 177 Percent Rise in Kindle Holiday Sales


Sales of Kindle devices "nearly tripled" during the holiday season, Amazon said.  But the e-tailer reported mixed results for Q4 ended Dec. 31.  Revenue grew 35 percent from Q4 the prior year, to $17.43 billion.  But it said profit tumbled 58 percent to $177 million, or 38 cents per share, from $416 million, 91 cents.

 

Amazon again didn’t say exactly how many Kindles it sold.  CEO Jeff Bezos said only that his company was "grateful to the millions of customers who purchased" the Kindle Fire and Kindle e-reader devices during the holiday season, making Kindle its best-selling product in the U.S. and Europe.  "Our millions of third-party sellers," meanwhile, enjoyed "a tremendous holiday season," with 65 percent unit growth and they now represent 36 percent of ...
