Sony Identifies Its Next-Gen TV Technology As ‘Crystal LED Display’

LAS VEGAS -- "Crystal LED Display" is the next-generation display technology that Sony will use as one of several pillars to return its TV business to profitability by the fiscal year ending March 2014. The technology was announced in a Sony Tokyo statement as the company broke news of the development at its CES news conference.

Sony executives for weeks had declined to identify the next-gen technology the company was working on, but promised to give it a sneak peak at CES (CED Dec 1 p1). Sony is showcasing the technology in a 55-inch Full HD prototype at CES. Sony called it the industry’s "first 55-inch Full HD self-emitting display using LEDs as the light source."
