Industry Botched 3D TV Story, Best Buy Chief Says


LAS VEGAS –- The CE industry’s launch of 3D TVs was flawed, in part because of the war of words between active-shutter and passive 3D TV camps, Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn said in an interview with CEA President Gary Shapiro at CES.  "I don’t think the story was told as effectively as it could have been," Dunn said.

 

"Any time there’s competing technologies," as between active-shutter and passive, "it’s just not good for the consumer," Dunn said.  The lack of adequate content also has hurt, he said:  "Content’s got to be out there and pull this wagon."

 

Glasses-free 3D will make things "much more interesting," Dunn said, saying he personally doesn’t like wearing 3D eyewear.  But he gave credit to ESPN for its efforts in support of 3D and said ... Log in to view full article.
