OLED Supply Agreements Emerge as Large-Size TV Debuts Near

With large-size OLED TV panels on the horizon, the materials and components alliances needed to support them are taking shape. For example, Samsung Mobile Displays and Corning forged a venture to develop OLED substrates based on Corning’s Lotus technology, while AU Optronics, which is reviving a once dormant OLED business, signed a materials supply agreement with Idemitsu Kosan.
The Samsung-Corning venture is short on details, including whether the pairing will result in a production alliance similar to Samsung-Corning Precision, which makes LCDs. It also wasn’t clear how the venture will be funded, and a Corning spokesman declined to comment.
