Stringer Hails Sony’s Next-Gen TV Technology As Home-Grown

LAS VEGAS -- New technologies such as "Crystal LED Display" that Sony introduced at CES (CED Jan 10 p1) "will factor somewhat into the equation" of reaching Sony’s stated goal of returning its TV business to profitability by March 2014, Executive Deputy President Kaz Hirai told a news briefing. But improving the profit performance of conventional TVs in the Sony lineup will be a bigger factor, Hirai said. "I think we are well on our way to doing that," he said.
The dissolution of the S-LCD venture with Samsung alone will save Sony "upwards" of 50 billion yen in the next fiscal year, "which is obviously a huge step toward improving the business," he said. Sony also is looking at "right-sizing" its TV lineup, especially for ...
