Users Can Store Own Disc Content in UltraViolet Cloud

LAS VEGAS -- UltraViolet, the cloud-based digital locker platform from the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem, has picked up support from heavyweights including Amazon, Samsung, Panasonic and Rovi, officials said at CES. UltraViolet rolled out quietly 3 months ago in the U.S. with 19 titles, but has endured some “rough spots,” said Mitch Singer, president of DECE and UltraViolet and chief technology officer of Sony Pictures. The consortium expects to have “hundreds” of titles available by the end of the year from four of the five major studios that are UltraViolet members, it said.
